Our laser seam tracking systems provide accurate high speed automatic control of welding head position. This improves weld quality while removing the need for an operator to monitor and adjust the weld head.

Quality

The main quality benefits from laser seam tracking result from the fact that the system ensures that the weld is made in the correct place in the joint all of the time. TIG welding requires a tracking accuracy of ±0.1 mm. Meta’s MT10/05 sensor has a horizontal resolution better than 0.02 mm, providing a safe margin for the required tracking performance.

Productivity

The use of laser seam tracking is able to offer significant productivity benefits. Most obviously, the mill operator does not have to monitor the weld continuously. He or she can spend time on other tasks. In the case of factories containing multiple lines, one operator can control more than one line, reducing manning. Improved quality in terms of reduced reject rates can also be a major benefit.
